My friend was involved in high end CNC machining at the time and he watched the guys making one while he was there. He said it was absolutely astonishing watching them work. Apparently some shops buy the blanks from these guys and then tart them up a bit for different markets so the guy with the power hammer probably sells the ‘Gucci’ variants to westerners. They often fit different handles to cope with bigger hands. Mine has quite a small handle and until you get the technique right it can lead to blisters on the heel of the hand. I’ll post a couple of pictures when I’m home this weekend.

What do you mean "cast"? I have not heard that term in reference to blade steel.





I have a casted blade... Very poor idea nonetheless.

Benchmark paratrooper knife, it's 100% casted except for the screws and spacers ... and the real funny shit, I also bought a knockoff that happened to be actual SS instead of the cast pot metal the OEM used.

So, it was "cast" as a blade or, is forged into a blade from a cast steel?

edit, The only references I find to material is, SS blade and handle.

Casted as a blade, yes. They say SS, but the Pitts and easy rust tells me otherwise. A dummie thick "SS" blade shouldn't bend as easy as a paperclip.





Edit: also if i can find it, a buddy wanted to buy a kitchen knife a few years back that is the second part of your comment, casted steel forged into a blade. It's made from "2 powdered steels" casted, then taken and beat up with forging, then grinded and heat treated, and finally edged. The video was interesting but didn't fully explain the processing.
