Not sure if it's the right thread, but has any body heard of Pyotr Alexeyevich Kropotkin (Пётр Алексеевич Кропоткин)?

Yes, he was a Russian conservative thinker of noble descent who was deeply worried about the direction society was headed, he made compelling arguments for why the old way of doing things, communal systems built around the concept of mutual aid, was superior.

"We accustom ourselves and our children to hypocrisy, to the practice of a double-faced morality. And since the brain is ill at ease among lies, we cheat ourselves with sophistry. Hypocrisy and sophistry become the second nature of the civilized man. But a society cannot live thus; it must return to truth or cease to exist."

-- Kropotkin, The Conquest of Bread, 1892

His book Mutual Aid is by many considered a foundational text in sociobiology, yet it remains in obscurity, a clear cut example of the suppression and discrimination conservative thinkers face to this day.

I know that the makhnovists were crushed by the red army a short time after having defeated the white army with their help, I'm unsure what made their philosophy particularly impractical though, but that may be a product of my ignorance more than anything else. Wasn't their defeat mainly a product of their military capabilities being far less developed?

I don't think of myself as a utopian, but I think materialism needs a healthy dose of it.

"If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your slow and incremental change."

- old conservative adage

Dear TheAtl,

I'd like to conserve our current climate. Don't fly or own an automobile, but I do eat meat and warm the house with natural gas. What should I do?
Btw, thanks for making me lol on FT forum again. It's been awhile.

Ask me anything.

Was there a time in your life when you could recognize the difference between fantasy and reality?

If I'm ignoring you it's because you're fallacy impaired. Here's hoping you rectify your problem so that we might have a sensible conversation.
