Vat - French vapers
Has anybody in France tried to order lately without pre-paying taxes? I know, sometimes it goes through, but the question, how often.

I don't mind to pay a couple of dollars, but just had the surprise, for an order just above 50$ with two items, taxes jump up to 8$. That's pretty new. (or not?)

So, if you have any late experiences with, please don't hesitate to share it.

It's from 2021 Fapi. I've had some little experiences since... Others too. Someone here told us months ago, that some of his packages went through w/o paying any taxes, I'm just keen to know how it's going in these days.

Bad idea for any EU customers, postal services had trouble with ioss at first sometimes asking to pay the VAT tax and handling fees despite the tax already prepaid (my case).

Nowadays, there's not much chance of a airmail package slipping under their radars.

I was sent a replacement under warranty early February 2022 so the value was 0 U$D, I didn't pay the VAT tax but I had to pay the handling fee about 10 U$D.

In both cases I was told I had to pay first to be able to start a dispute then maybe be reimbursed.

Yes, I had that too last year.

Febr. 2022, one package of mine has got lost (with NOT prepaid taxes, it was supposed to be a test!)) in the air, for the replacement, I asked for to prepay taxes (as for any cases, I didn't want to pay it twice), around 2$ as normal for a 20$+ smth item.

I was sent a replacement under warranty early February 2022 so the value was 0 U$D, I didn't pay the VAT tax but I had to pay the handling fee about 10 U$D.

Do you mean the sender asked you to pay 10$ of handling fees??

lol! I guess it wasn't on FT.

No it's the local postal service that asks for a handling fees for a missing IOSS number.
Because one of their employees has to deal with my package.

I was always wondering if with my lost package, to get lost was anything to do with the lack of IOSS.

When I ordered it, I thought either it would go through or they would be happy to make me pay all the fees. Which I hoped anyway wouldn't be too high after a 22$ worth item. Which is of course much more expensive if you buy it in France.

As before that, 2 different things happened to me:
First: got an e-mail at the previous day with a link that allowed me to pay reduced taxes, on-line. 2 days later my package arrived to my address, period.

Second* (some months later), they didn't even bother with sending me an e-mail, I just received a piece of paper in my mailbox saying, either I pay the reduced fees until midnight or I have to go to fetch my package against an amount of 12€. But I was away for a couple of days, and they also forgot to precise where I can find my package. So it became a bit complicated.

Since it, I always opt to the prepaid taxes. But the amount of 8$ has just surprised me today.

* that second time, it happened in spite of the prepaid taxes, but it was before all these things got cleared out. At least what concerns la France.

Hi cilika
I wouldn’t try reading anything from the glitches of the system.
Did you pay the first time?

Btw I’m now going iOSs systematically I think it’s cheaper…

Hi Gigirat,
Basically I do. I prefer to go with as often I'm away for several days, so can't be sure to be there when a package arrives.

As last autumn (first order since VAT from FT) in spite of prepaying it, they taxed me hard, the question reminded if it was worth to do it or not. But later on (this year) by going with, everything went smooth.

Except once, about two months ago, I had a min. order where I didn't prepay it, it was meant for a test. I could never find out as the package has got lost.

The only thing, since this post of mariokart, he hasn't given any updates. It would've been great to know if he kept gambling with it or not.
